The Secret of the Shoebox – Joke

The Secret of the Shoebox 2 - The Secret of the Shoebox - Joke

An elderly couple had been happily married for over 60 years, sharing every aspect of life together. They had open conversations and kept no secrets, except for one: a shoebox the wife kept in her closet, which she had warned her husband never to open or inquire about.

For decades, the box never crossed the husband’s mind. However, when the wife fell gravely ill, and the doctor confirmed she would not recover, the husband, while arranging their affairs, brought the shoebox to her bedside with her consent.

Upon opening it, he discovered two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000. Overwhelmed with curiosity, he asked about the box’s contents.

The wife explained, “Before we married, my grandmother shared the secret to a happy marriage: never argue. She advised that if I ever became angry with you, I should remain silent and crochet a doll.”

Tears welled up in the husband’s eyes as he looked at the two dolls, realizing she had only been angry with him twice in all their years together. His heart swelled with joy.

“But what about all this money?” he asked.

She smiled faintly and replied, “That’s from selling the dolls.”
